The Village of Merton is considering purchasing the 150+ year
old, historic First Baptist Church, and eventually converting it into the
village hall and offices. HMI performed a feasibility study which
identified code and zoning requirements that would result in needed changes
or upgrades to the existing building. Various scenarios were reviewed,
including reuse of the church as-is (with minimal addition), significantly
adding onto the existing church, and building a stand alone village hall on
the same site as the church. The addition options posed the challenge to
match the existing architecture in such a way as to make the addition appear
as it were part of the original building. Happily, this was successfully
accomplished.
